Our clinical service, the Occupational Lung Disease service, is part of the Royal Brompton Hospital, a hospital specialising in lung and heart diseases. We have been here for more than 40 years, making us the one of the busiest and longest-established clinics of this type in Europe.
Our clinic is for people who have/may have:
- a lung condition caused by their work,
- a lung condition that is making it difficult to work or to find work,
- breathing difficulties related to the workplace, or the wider environment outside work.
We use a variety of tests to investigate signs and symptoms of occupational lung disease, listed below.

We run a weekly NHS outpatients clinic every Monday afternoon focusing on occupational lung disease. We accept referrals from any healthcare professional - read more about how to refer.
We can see patients either face-to-face or virtually (telephone or video call), depending on clinical need and patient preference. Face-to-face appointments take place at the outpatients department at the Royal Brompton Hospital. Tests we usually run are below. You can also read more about how clinic appointments are structured.
